A.W. Tillinghast designed The Oaks Country Club course after the club, founded in 1920 as Golfers Country Club, bought the land in 1921; the course and clubhouse opened in 1924. Perry Maxwell rebuilt seven greens in 1937, and architect Bill Bergin led a 2015 to 2018 restoration meant to revive Tillinghast's original design intent as part of a 7.2 million dollar improvement plan. The club has hosted the 1938 Women's Trans Mississippi Golf Championship, won by Patty Berg, plus the 1960 USGA Junior Girls Championship and the 1975 Women's Trans National Amateur Championship.
