Fort Myers Country Club opened in 1917, designed the year before by Donald Ross, making it one of Florida's oldest courses on the state's west coast. Thomas Edison and Henry Ford were frequent players in the 1920s, and the course sits about a mile from the Edison and Ford Winter Estates along McGregor Boulevard. Locally the club is known as The Fort.
