The Schoolmaster opened in 2005 on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, designed by Roger Rulewich with Bobby Vaughn on a site high above Wilson Lake on the Tennessee River. It is named for President Woodrow Wilson, who championed construction of Wilson Dam and was nicknamed the Schoolmaster for his academic background. The course is a tree-lined shotmaker's test with narrower fairways than its sister course, Fighting Joe.
