Brackenridge Park Golf Course opened in 1916 to a design by golf architect A W Tillinghast. Highway construction forced a 1968 rebuild of the back nine by Johnson and Dempsey, George Hoffman, and Murray Brooks, and a 2008 restoration by John Colligan brought back fifteen of the original holes. It hosted the Texas Open from 1922 to 1959, and Mike Souchak set the PGA Tour's 72-hole scoring record here in 1955.
