Great Gorge
Mcafee, NJ
Great Gorge is a public 18-hole, par-70 golf course in Mcafee, New Jersey, playing 6,645 yards with a course rating of 72.4 and slope of 132. It was designed by George Fazio and opened in 1970.
🏛 Designed by George Fazio (1970)
Great Gorge opened in 1970 when Hugh Hefner commissioned George Fazio to design a 27-hole course as part of the 20 million dollar Great Gorge Playboy Club resort, which drew entertainment figures such as Frank Sinatra, Frankie Avalon and Tony Bennett. The layout is split into three nines: Rail, which runs past historic railroad trestles, Lake, along Black Creek, and Quarry, whose signature par 3 backs onto exposed quarry walls. After years of decline the Koffman family purchased the dormant course in 2016 and restored it, reopening it to the public.
