The course opened in 1906 and was laid out by Donald Ross in 1910, working from an earlier design by his assistants Peacock and McNabb. Sam Snead set a course record of 63 there in a 1946 exhibition, beating Ben Hogan's 71. Architect Kyle Franz led a 2020 to 2023 restoration that removed hundreds of trees, rebuilt bunkers and greens, and recreated a hole Ross had drawn but never built, reopening the course at roughly 6,900 yards and par 70 on the sandy Sandhills terrain.
