Grandfather Golf and Country Club's Championship Course in Linville, North Carolina was designed by Ellis Maples and opened in 1968, called his architectural masterpiece. The North Carolina Golf Panel has ranked it the second-best course in the state behind only Pinehurst No. 2. The club also has the Mountain Springs Course, a shorter par-3 layout for family play added in 1975.
