The Golf Club of Illinois was built in 1987 by Dick Nugent and Bruce Borland as a links style course, with high fescue grasses, sand bunkers and mounding on each hole. It hosted the Illinois Open Championship in 1990, won by Gary Pinns, the tournament's only player to finish under par. The course has been ranked among the top 10 public courses in Chicagoland by Chicagoland Golf.
