Robert Trent Jones reshaped the layout as part of a 1965 reconfiguration of the resort's courses. The East Course hosted the 1959 US Amateur, where a 19 year old Jack Nicklaus won the title, the 1967 US Amateur, and the 1995 US Women's Open, the first of Annika Sorenstam's ten major championships.
