The Lake Course at the Olympic Club opened in 1924, designed by Sam Whiting and Willie Watson and reworked by Robert Trent Jones Sr. for the 1955 U.S. Open. It has hosted five U.S. Opens in all, with the 54-hole leader losing every time, including Jack Fleck's 1955 playoff win over Ben Hogan.
