Steelwood's course was designed by 1976 U.S. Open champion Jerry Pate, who worked elevation changes and fairway undulation into an otherwise flat stretch of south Alabama. The layout opens along Steelwood Lake, moves into dense hardwood forest and wetlands, then returns lakeside, with more than a third of the holes offering lake views. It is a private club offering local, fishing and corporate memberships.
